The Last Soviet In Afghanistan

An ex-Soviet soldier in Afghanistan hasn’t returned to the motherland in more than 25 years. He remembers 1983 like it was yesterday: It was the height of the Soviet war in Afghanistan, and the USSR had brought a communist regime to power in the country and provided it with economic and military supported. He fought on the Soviet side of the conflict, but was captured by the Mujahideen. The ex-soldier now lives in Afghanistan, and has a wife and four children. Is this man a traitor to his country, or simply a victim of circumstance?

“The country is an absolute mess. Russian, Taliban, and Western policies have been to take control of the country away from the people and decide what’s best for them. Afghans, if given the chance, are more than capable of putting their own country back together. But with endemic corruption, three decades of interference, and the continuing War on Terror, it will be a long time yet before foreign hands let go of this place. “

HEAL

A beautiful short film by Mian Adnan Ahmad. This brought tears to my eyes, reminded me of the situations afghans live in and the dangers they face in their daily life. All we want is peace. We have experienced enough deaths of our loved ones, losing our families. The ones we didn’t lose, every day passes as if something bad is going to happen sooner or later, our hearts full of fear and unrest.

Please watch and share this captivating message. Worth every minute of your time.

Love will heal the broken heart,
Hope will heal the broken soul.

The Forgotten Victims
IWPR documentary on war crimes committed in Afghanistan over two decades.By IWPR - Afghanistan 30 Mar 12“The Forgotten Victims”, a new documentary produced by IWPR, sheds light on the war crimes and other human rights abuses committed in Afghanistan over two decades of serial conflict. The film raises difficult issues about accountability in a country where the victims of crimes against humanity are sidelined, while the perpetrators walk free and in some cases continue to hold political power.
“The Forgotten Victims” covers the period from just before the 1979 Soviet invasion and the ensuing war with the mujahedin, through the brutal civil war of the early 1990s, to the Taleban’s rule from 1996 to 2001.
Because of this wide historical sweep, the film focuses on selected incidents, such as a massacre of civilians in Yakawlang, central Afghanistan, committed by Taleban forces at the beginning of 2001.At public screenings around Afghanistan, audiences praised the filmmakers for telling the victims’ stories and opening up a debate on justice and accountability.
“Making a film like this in the current climate requires a lot of courage. It’s a great step towards seeking justice,” Mohammad Nader Atash, a defence lawyer in Nangarhar.

Naseer & Shahab - Za Pukhtoon Yam (I’m pashtun)

I am elegance
A candle of peace
I am a Lad of Khyber
I am a Pukhtoon

I am extremely blessed
Whether I am rich or poor
I am barely bothered
I am a Pukhtoon

From Haroon Bacha
To Takkar’s music
In the hands of love
I’ve been bred
I am a couplet of Ghani
I am a Pukhtoon

if you hit me with stones
Place a gun to my head
I’ll greet you with a flower
I am a Pukhtoon

A hat on my head
Fond of honor
I am music and dance
I am the Tune of love
I am cherished by all
I am a Pukhtoon
I am a couplet of Ghani
I am a Pukhtoon

The Other side of Afghanistan

Things you don’t hear about in TV. In the summer of 2009 a British tour operator organised a trip to the Wakhan Corridor in the north east of Afghanistan. With all you see on the news you may think this is a dangerous thing to do. But if you bare in mind that the Taliban make up less than 0.05% of the population then you might begin to understand that there is a lot more to this extraordinary country than war and opium. The remote and mountainous Wakhan Corridor has remained entirely peaceful. Welcome to the other Afghanistan. To find out more visit www.mountainunity.org.

Buzkashi Boys is a unique narrative short film shot entirely on location in Afghanistan, offering a rare glimpse at another side of this war-torn country.

Set against the backdrop of buzkashi, a brutal game of horse polo played with a dead goat instead of a ball, the film follows two best friends, a street urchin and a blacksmith’s son, who struggle to reconcile dreams with duty as they make their way to manhood.

Buzkashi Boys was produced through the Afghan Film Project, a non-profit foundation formed to tell uniquely Afghan stories while building the capacity of Afghanistan’s fledgling film industry.

To complete the film they need to raise $25,000, so far they only have collected $15,112. So, if you can please donate money on this site to support them. Your donation will go towards paying for color grading, visual effects, mastering the film, and publicity.
